Business challenge

Creating a new production material touched engineering, planning, purchasing, quality, the warehouse and finance. Each department maintained its own views in SAP, in its own time, from its own emails. Materials went live half finished, and nobody could say where a request was stuck or who was holding it.

Solution

Futera built a product information wizard on a web interface. The initiator starts it, picks the material type, and the wizard takes the request from one department to the next: each stakeholder sees only their own step, with the fields, validations and document requirements that belong to it, and passes it on. Administrators shape the wizard without code: add a step, add a field, make it mandatory, require a drawing or a certificate. Everything collected along the way, data and documents, is held in the request until the last approval. Then one step creates the material in SAP: all views, plants, storage locations, classification and extensions at once, with the documents attached. No department opens a transaction, and nothing is created half finished.

Results

• A material is created once and complete, in one step, instead of view by view
• Every stakeholder sees only their step, and the wizard moves it on
• New steps, fields and document rules are added by configuration
• Everyone sees where each request stands and who holds it
• The approval trail and the documents stay with the material
